IN THE MEDIA

Director's Note: We’ve included two features from our important ally, Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI), as both highlight an issue of growing concern to Louisiana’s trucking industry—third-party litigation financing (TPLF).

Q&A with R. Amar: LMTA Policy Priorities

LMTA Executive Director Renee Amar spoke with LaPolitics about rising commercial insurance costs and the continued impact of lawsuit abuse on Louisiana’s trucking industry. She emphasized the need for further legal reforms this session and discussed LMTA’s policy priorities at both the state and federal levels.

Legislative Session Underway: Member Engagement Will Be Critical

The Capitol was relatively quiet this week as the 2026 legislative session began. Committees have started meeting, but so far no controversial bills have been heard. Our bill tracking chart is still a work in progress, but we encourage you to review it and pay close attention to the key bills affecting Louisiana’s trucking industry.

As the session moves forward, we will need your help. Legislative leadership is experiencing significant “insurance fatigue” and has expressed reluctance to hear additional lawsuit abuse legislation. That means grassroots engagement from LMTA members will be critical in helping secure hearings for these bills. If hearings are scheduled, we will also need members willing to provide testimony. Lawmakers consistently say they value hearing directly from the people who live and work in their districts, so your voice truly matters. Please stay engaged and follow developments closely as the session continues through June.
