Louisiana Safety Awards - Applications Now Open

The 2026 Louisiana Truck Driving Championships will take place Friday, June 19 – Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. Testing, pretrip, the course and the awards banquet will all be held on the Cajundome's campus.

This annual event brings together the best of Louisiana’s trucking professionals for two days of skill, safety, and camaraderie. In addition to the driving competition, we will also present the Louisiana Safety Awards, including:

Applications and nominations are now open for three LMTA Foundation awards recognizing excellence across the trucking industry: Fleet Safety Awards, Truck Driver of the Year, and Safety Professional of the Year. These applications must be submitted by March 9, 2026 via email (lmta@lmta.la).

We encourage members to apply or nominate deserving individuals and fleets and help us recognize outstanding commitment to safety and professionalism.

MORE ON THE 2026 TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS:

What’s Changing from Previous Years? 

  • The location has moved from Baton Rouge to Lafayette.
  • The event will be hosted at the Cajundome (climate-controlled venue) and surrounding buildings on the UL campus. This includes all events from the competition (testing, pretrip and course) as well as the awards banquet.
  • Application timelines have shifted from early in the year to the spring - Driver registration will open March 1.

We can’t wait to see you in Lafayette for another great competition and to celebrate the outstanding professionals who keep our industry safe.

Women in Motion–Louisiana (WIM-LA) officially launched with two introductory video conference calls, welcoming women from across Louisiana’s transportation industry to learn more about this new council of the Louisiana Motor Transport Association.

During these sessions, we introduced the mission of WIM-LA, outlined our objectives, and shared plans for upcoming initiatives focused on connection, professional development, advocacy, and industry engagement.

Membership Information
LMTA membership is required to join Women in Motion–Louisiana. There are two categories of dues for WIM-LA: Trucking Members (Individual, Domiciled, and Non-Domiciled) and Allied Members. The fee is assessed per person, not per company.

Eligibility for WIM-LA is based on your company’s LMTA membership status. Questions about membership affiliation may be directed to lmta@lmta.la.

Notice to Carriers: Active Weigh Station Sign Now Operating on I-10 Eastbound

We’re sharing a quick update for drivers traveling on I-10 Eastbound, based on information provided by our partners at LADOTD Police.
The LaPlace Eastbound weigh station is scheduled to begin operations on February 16. A new digital sign has been placed on I-10 Eastbound before the LaPlace weigh station. This sign will let drivers know when the weigh station is open and active. The goal of this sign is to give drivers advance notice so they can be prepared and avoid unexpected delays.
Carriers are encouraged to let their drivers know about this new sign and upcoming weigh station activity when traveling on I-10 Eastbound.

Notice to Carriers: Breaux Bridge Platform Work Begins Feb. 16

We’re sharing an important construction update for carriers traveling through the Breaux Bridge area, based on information provided by our partners at LADOTD.

 

Beginning February 16, platform work will start at the Breaux Bridge location. Construction will begin on the eastbound side, which is expected to last approximately one month. Once that work is complete, crews will transition to the westbound side.

 

Overall, the project is anticipated to take roughly three months from start to finish. After completion at Breaux Bridge, operations are expected to move north to Delta.
