FROM OUR PARTNERS AT THE FEDERAL MOTOR CARRIER SAFETY ADMINISTRATION:
Members,
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is encouraging all companies with a USDOT Number or docket number (MC, MX, or FF) to review and update their FMCSA Portal accounts in preparation for the launch of Motus: the USDOT Registration System.
Please complete the following actions by May 14, 2026:
1. Confirm Your FMCSA Portal Account is Active
Log in to your FMCSA Portal account at portal.fmcsa.dot.gov to ensure your account is active.
- If you do not have an account, you can create one using your USDOT PIN.
- Obtain your PIN at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
2. Be Aware of Account Inactivity Rules
- Accounts are disabled after 90 days of inactivity
- Accounts are archived after 12 months of inactivity
- If your account is disabled or archived, contact the FMCSA Contact Center to have it unlocked: www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration/ask-fmcsa
3. Review and Update Company Information
Within the Portal, confirm that the following details are accurate:
- Company information
- Operation classification
- Contact information
- Authorized users
4. Complete Updates via Biennial Update (MCS-150)
You can make updates the same way you complete your Biennial Update:
- Navigate to the “Registration” tab
- Select “Biennial Update (MCS-150)”
Important Note on Motus Access
Only the FMCSA Portal Company Official using the same Login.gov email will be able to initially claim your account in Motus. Once your account is successfully linked, future registration updates will be handled directly in Motus—no need to return to the FMCSA Portal.
