The LMTA launched its first annual Legislative Logbook, a highlight of the state’s lawmakers who supported LMTA-backed legislation during the 2024 Regular Legislative Session.

The Legislative Logbook is a report to both LMTA members and the public of Louisiana lawmakers’ support of this year’s trucking and business legislation. LMTA scored legislators based on their voting record.

The Logbook also features a series of “Session Supporters,” groups of individual lawmakers who scored the highest with the LMTA. This year 28 lawmakers scored 90 percent or higher on LMTA-supported legislation.

Text message scam demands money for fake toll charges, Louisiana GeauxPass officials warn

From The Advocate:

Scammers pretending to be a tolling agency are demanding money for fake toll charges via text messages, according to officials with GeauxPass, Louisiana's statewide tolling system.

GeauxPass officials said in a press release Tuesday that a web address in the scam text directs recipients to an unaffiliated website, where they are asked settle a false balance by providing personal and financial information.

GeauxPass does not ask for personal information via text, officials said.

The web address in the scam text message misspells GeauxPass by excluding the letter X, while adding a .net domain instead of a .com domain, officials said. The incorrect link is written as "https://geaupass.net."

The correct link to GeauxPass is www.geauxpass.com.

GeauxPass officials encouraged residents to check domain names carefully. Do not click on anything that appears suspicious and delete scam texts, officials said. Anyone who already gave personal and financial information to a suspicious website should take efforts to secure all accounts.

Anyone with questions about the scam can call (866) 662-8987.

New Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting Rule Information

The new Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirements, mandated by the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) in the United States, require certain entities to disclose information about their beneficial owners to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

The purpose of these requirements is to combat money laundering, tax evasion, and other illicit activities by increasing transparency around who owns and controls companies. Beneficial owners are generally individuals who own or control at least 25% of an entity, or who exercise substantial control over it.

The rule applies to corporations, limited liability companies (LLCs), and other similar entities formed in or registered to do business in the U.S., with certain exemptions like large operating companies and regulated entities. Reports must include detailed information about the beneficial owners, such as names, addresses, and identification numbers.

Non-compliance with these requirements can lead to significant penalties, including fines and potential criminal charges. The new regulations are part of broader efforts to improve corporate transparency and curb illegal financial activities.
