Updates from Louisiana's Transportation Industry!

2023 Top Industry Issues Survey

We kindly ask our members to take a few minutes and complete The American Transportation Research Institute’s 2023 Top Industry Issues Survey. The annual survey asks trucking industry stakeholders to rank the top issues of concern for the industry along with potential strategies for addressing each issue.

If enough respondents from Louisiana take the survey, we will receive Louisiana’s top issues. Otherwise, they are national top issues.

Industry stakeholders are encouraged to complete the 2023 survey available by clicking here. The survey will remain open through September 29, 2023

LMTA's New Communications Manager

We are excited to announce that we have a new Communications Manager, Lyia Higgs! We all know that the association and truckers across the state of Louisiana are in a crisis with their insurance and desperately need relief as they consider their options to contain costs to stay in business. The communications position at LMTA is the most critical position that we have on staff-not only to communicate with you-but also to convey our message to the public.

Lyia has the exact skill set that we need at this critical juncture in time. Lyia earned her bachelor's degree at Southern University in Mass Communication with an emphasis in public relations, and she is currently working on obtaining her master's degree in strategic communications. With Lyia Higgs joining us as the new Communications Manager, we are confident in her ability to effectively address the pressing concerns of truckers statewide.

“Truckers in Louisiana are in a crisis. We have the highest truck insurance rates in the nation, and we can’t stand on the sidelines while we see our friends and families fleeing the state,” says LMTA Executive Director Renee Amar. “Truckers need bold action from their elected officials, and we are going to support those candidates willing to take action on our behalf to fix the issues.”

TruckPAC is a non-partisan political action committee that promotes candidates and officials that support Louisiana’s trucking industry.

WEATHER - National Weather Service: Dangerous Heat Advisories

Here is an update from our partners at the New Orleans and Baton Rouge NWS.

Main Takeaways:

  • Dangerous heat will continue today but won't be quite as oppressive as recent days. A heat advisory is in effect for maximum heat index values up to 111 degrees. Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, drink plenty of water even if you're not thirsty, check on the elderly, ill neighbors, and family members, and bring pets indoors or provide them with shade and plenty of water.
  • Seven Day Forecast for Baton Rouge and New Orleans depicts more extreme heat ahead this weekend into early next week with heat indices well into the 110 degree range. However, rain chances build back up this weekend into early next week with an approaching front, helping to reduce the extreme heat somewhat.
