The Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) has endorsed Judge Burris in the upcoming election for the Louisiana Supreme Court, citing his conservative judicial philosophy and firm commitment to interpreting the law as written—not rewriting it from the bench. 

“For Louisiana’s trucking industry, Supreme Court decisions have real and immediate consequences,” said Renee Amar, executive director of LMTA. “When judges abandon strict construction and expand liability beyond what the law allows, truckers and employers pay the price through higher costs, lost jobs, and increased legal uncertainty.”

LMTA noted that Louisiana’s trucking industry has already suffered from Supreme Court rulings that stretched the law, produced unpredictable outcomes, and exposed employers to excessive and unwarranted liability.

“Our members have lived with the fallout of decisions that went far beyond interpreting the law,” Amar said. “Those rulings undermined fairness, weakened confidence in the legal system, and made it harder for truckers to operate, insure their businesses, and employ Louisiana workers.”

LMTA stressed that judges should apply the law—not advance policy preferences or expand liability through creative interpretations. 

“Judge Burris understands that the role of a justice is to interpret the law as written, not to legislate from the bench,” Amar said. “That discipline matters. It is the difference between a predictable legal system and one that invites excessive litigation and economic harm.” 

The association emphasized that a stable and restrained judiciary is essential for Louisiana’s competitiveness and economic future. “At a time when Louisiana can ill afford more legal uncertainty, Judge Burris offers the conservative, balanced, and principled judicial leadership our state needs,” Amar said. “LMTA is proud to stand behind him.”
