LMTA Foundation Honors Two Louisiana Police Officers

Sgt. Brady Johnson and Lt. Justin Porche are to be honored.

Baton Rouge, La. — February 13, 2025 — The Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) Foundation has named Sergeant Brady Johnson of the Louisiana State Police (LSP) and Lieutenant Justin Porche of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) as their 2025 Officers of the Year.  Each year, this award recognizes law enforcement officers for outstanding commitment to safety, willingness to work with the trucking industry, exceptional work record, and personal work ethics.

"Truck drivers and law enforcement officers share the road as partners," said Renee Amar, Executive Director of the LMTA Foundation. "We are honored to recognize these officers for their dedication, collaboration, and commitment to safety. Their efforts to educate and support our industry help ensure safer roads for everyone. Their professionalism and strong relationships with the industry truly make a difference."

Sgt. Brady Johnson completed the 93rd State Police Cadet Class in November 2014 and was assigned to Troop I in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was named the Louisiana State Police Uniformed Trooper of the Year in 2016 and the American Legion Trooper of the Year, achieving ACE Trooper status in 2015 and 2016. Sgt. Johnson served as a field training officer and was later assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force. In 2017, he joined the newly created Mobile Weight Enforcement section, completing extensive training in hazardous materials, cargo tanks, and CVSA Level 6 inspections. He was promoted to sergeant in the compliance review section in December 2020, where he has conducted numerous investigations and served as an associate instructor for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration National Training Center. In March 2023, he became the Louisiana MCSAP training coordinator for Transportation Safety Services. In 2024, his leadership was instrumental in transitioning roadside inspection software from ASPEN to SAFESPECT.

Lt. Porche graduated from the Slidell Regional Police Academy in 2005 and began his service with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety. Assigned to the Weight Enforcement Unit within the Transportation Safety Services Division, he quickly established himself as an asset, serving as a field training officer; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives technician; and later as a supervisor in Region 1. In 2022, the state's stationary weight enforcement operations transitioned to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, leading to the creation of a new police department. Lt. Porche was selected for a pivotal role in developing this newly formed section as the lieutenant at the Kentwood scales. Additionally, he served as the Region 1 executive officer, overseeing both administrative responsibilities and enforcement actions in his area.

Each officer will be recognized during the LMTA Foundation’s Truck Safety Awards on March 1, 2025, at the L’Auberge Baton Rouge.
