LMTA Foundation Honors Two Louisiana Police Officers
Agent Michael Moreau and Sergeant Kevin Fontenot honored.
The Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) Foundation named Agent Michael Moreau of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) and Sergeant Kevin Fontenot of the Louisiana State Police (LSP) as its 2026 Officers of the Year. Each year, this award recognizes law enforcement officers for their outstanding commitment to safety, willingness to work with the trucking industry, exceptional service records, and exemplary professionalism.
"Safety is built through strong partnerships between the trucking industry and law enforcement," said Renee Amar, Executive Director of the LMTA Foundation. "Agent Moreau and Sergeant Fontenot exemplify what those partnerships should look like. Their dedication to education, enforcement, and collaboration helps create a safer transportation environment for drivers and the motoring public alike. We are proud to recognize their service and the positive impact they have on our industry."
The 2026 LMTA Officer of the Year Award was presented to Agent Michael Moreau for his exceptional professionalism, sound judgment, and strong partnership with the commercial motor carrier community. Based at the Breaux Bridge facility, Agent Moreau has consistently upheld LADOTD Police standards with fairness and calm authority, earning the respect of both drivers and fellow officers. His commitment to education and practical problem-solving—clearly explaining regulations, helping carriers understand compliance requirements, and guiding drivers toward safe and lawful solutions—has strengthened safety and cooperation throughout the industry. Agent Moreau's integrity, professionalism, and dedication made him highly deserving of this recognition.
Sergeant Kevin Fontenot was recognized for his exceptional expertise, professionalism, and service to Louisiana's trucking industry. Since joining the Motor Carrier Safety Unit in 2019, he has earned numerous advanced certifications, supervised inspectors across multiple regions, and completed more than 4,100 inspections without receiving a single complaint. He is widely respected for his extensive knowledge of motor carrier and hazardous materials regulations, his commitment to educating carriers, and his ability to build positive relationships through effective communication. As a dedicated mentor, community volunteer, and third-generation law enforcement officer, Sergeant Fontenot has consistently demonstrated the highest standards of the Louisiana State Police and was a deserving recipient of this honor.
Both officers were recognized during the LMTA Foundation's Truck Safety Awards ceremony, held June 20, 2026, at the Cajundome Event Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. The awards were presented in conjunction with the 2026 Louisiana Truck Driving Championships Awards Ceremony, which celebrated Louisiana's top professional truck drivers and industry safety achievements.
