LMTA Launches First Annual Legislative Logbook, Highlighting Lawmakers Supporting Truckers

BATON ROUGE – La, – The Louisiana Motor Transport Association (LMTA) launched its first annual Legislative Logbook, a highlight of the state’s lawmakers who supported LMTA-backed legislation during the 2024 Regular Legislative Session. The Legislative Logbook is a report to both LMTA members and the public of Louisiana lawmakers’ support of this year’s trucking and business legislation. LMTA scored legislators based on their voting record.

“The truckers in Louisiana have always had a strong voice at the capitol through LMTA. That voice needed fortification by a strong and complementary advocacy program,” stated Renee Amar, LMTA Executive Director. “LMTA has now created a full circle advocacy program from beginning to end-soup and nuts. For any program to be effective, there must be measurement and accountability. This is exactly what our voting record gives our members and the public. When the rubber meets the road, truckers now know who has their back.”

The Logbook also features a series of “Session Supporters,” groups of individual lawmakers who scored the highest with the LMTA. This year 28 lawmakers scored 90 percent or higher on LMTA-supported legislation.

The group of legislators with a 100 percent voting record are named “Big Rigs.” Only four were from the state’s House and seven from the Senate. From this group of perfect-scoring lawmakers the LMTA named its “Road Warriors.” The award aims to highlight policymakers who demonstrate exemplary commitment and leadership in their respective legislative bodies, focusing on issues facing the state’s trucking industry.

“LMTA worked diligently over the last few years to get more engaged in politics and policy-making. We undertook more work over this last year during the elections to raise money and vet candidates who touted pro-trucking policies. This new program holds lawmakers accountable for the positions they stated on the campaign trail and clearly shows our members who will stand up for them,” stated TruckPAC Chair Tim Ordoyne.
